Companionship and home help

Regular visits from the same friendly companion, so you or your relative can keep doing the things that matter at home and out in the community.

What we can help with

  • Company and conversation, hobbies, games and reading together
  • Shopping, collecting prescriptions and running errands
  • Preparing meals and drinks, and washing up
  • Light housework, laundry and changing beds
  • Walks, trips to the seafront, cafés, clubs and places of worship
  • Going with you to GP, hospital and other appointments
  • A regular check-in that gives families peace of mind

Who it is for

Older people who are mostly independent but would like company, practical help or someone to get out and about with. It also suits families who live further away and want a trusted person to call in.

What companionship does not include

Our companions do not help with washing, dressing, toileting or taking medicines. That is personal care, which we will offer once we are registered with the Care Quality Commission. If you need it now, we will tell you honestly and help you find a registered provider.

How to get started

  1. Call or send an enquiry

Tell us a little about who needs support and what would help.

  2. Free home visit

We visit at a time that suits you, with family there if you like.

  3. Your support plan

We agree the days, times and tasks, and give you a clear written price.

  4. Meet your companion

We introduce your regular companion and review how things are going.

Coming in 2027

Personal care at home

When our registration is confirmed, we will add hands-on care for people who need more support to stay safely at home.

Our registration status

ROAL Healthcare is preparing to apply to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) to provide personal care. We do not provide personal care until registration is confirmed. Once we are registered, you will be able to check us on the CQC website.

Register your interest

What personal care will include

  • Help getting up, washing, bathing and dressing
  • Support with continence and using the toilet
  • Prompting and help with medicines
  • Help with eating and drinking
  • Support after a hospital stay
  • Later, live-in care for people who need someone there day and night

Companionship clients can move on to personal care with the same team once it is available. We will publish personal care prices when our registration is confirmed.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does companionship cost?

Companionship costs £28 an hour on weekdays, £30 an hour at weekends and £42 an hour on bank holidays, with a minimum visit of 1 hour. Your free home visit and written support plan cost nothing, and there are no joining fees. See all our prices.

Can I arrange support for my mum or dad?

Yes. Many enquiries come from sons and daughters. We always involve the person receiving support and agree the plan with them, and we can keep you updated after visits if they are happy for us to.

Do you provide personal care now?

Not yet. We are preparing our application to the Care Quality Commission and will only start personal care once registration is confirmed. You can register your interest and we will contact you when it is available.

Can I use a direct payment from the council?

If you receive a direct payment for your support, ask us. We will check whether the support in your plan is something our companionship service can provide.

How do you check your staff?

Every worker has a right-to-work check, two references and an enhanced DBS check before they start. New companions complete the Care Certificate, and agency staff must show current mandatory training.

Will I see the same person each time?

We aim for the same companion at each visit, with a small number of familiar colleagues to cover holidays and sickness.

How quickly can you supply staff to our care home?

Call us on 07397 188081 at any time of day or night with the date and shift, and we will confirm whether we can cover it. Regular block bookings give us the best chance of sending the same workers each time.
